Way pulos daw ang pulis.. Pastilang paita…

Dumaguete City dumpsite

dumaguete city dumpsiteThis photo was taken in Candau-ay, Dumaguete City. The smoke brought by the dumpsite has been an issue for three weeks now.  It started the last time it rained. We even sought help from the fire station five times to extinguish the fire. We’ve contacted Cenro, the local officials, the city administrator and even aired our sentiments over the radio but to no avail. They said they are trying to find ways to resolve the dumpsite issues in the area. I understand that it is impossible for the dumpsite to close the soonest.

Ang sa amin lang naman, ma extinguish muna ang usok na non-stop naming hinihinga for several days now!  (Contributed by Melody C. Prado)

Espinoza: Boxing is business

UNLIKE in the olden days, boxing today is all about business. In his heyday, Gabriel “Flash” Elorde won several fights here and abroad but he never made it to the very rich status of the present crop of boxers like Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao. In the more recent fight, while he was magnanimous in accepting defeat [...]

Espresso: Fixing Manny

THE loud boos said it all: it was a “robbery” in Las Vegas — though it happens all the time in the casinos – as Manny Pacquiao’s winning streak ended in a controversial split decision in his bout against American Timothy Bradley. It is by far the most questionable conclusion in boxing history, even as [...]

Malilong: ‘Surambaw’

THE shock defeat of Manny Pacquiao in the hands of Timothy Bradley Jr. also exposed an inadequacy in the English language. It has no equivalent to the Visayan word that best describes the decision. “Travesty” or “rip-off” is close but it is not as colorful as, nor does it capture the nuance or essence of, [...]

Cabaero: Late Pacquiao

WHERE is Manny Pacquiao?” “Ang tagal naman.” “Pacman! Pacman! Showtime!” These were the impatient Twitter messages before the fight. The reason Filipino boxing icon Manny Pacquiao lost in his fight Sunday was because he let the judges wait for close to 20 minutes before he climbed up the ring. He came on the so-called Filipino [...]

Quijano: Manny’s ultimate sacrifice

I HAD it 117-111 for Manny Pacquiao. I have scored hundreds of fights-not officially of course, but more often than not, I am corroborated and sustained by better analysts/ writers. In this case, the Associated Press shared my tally. But admittedly, scoring rounds is a subjective activity and so it could perhaps be reasonably argued [...]
