At the Don Ricardo Briz Elementary School, the athletes of Central Visayas competing in the Palarong Pambansa will gather round a small altar with the Sr. Sto. Niño and say a prayer. Most of the time, they pray the rosary to say thanks or seek guidance for the athletes for who will be competing on that day. But today, the team will say a prayer for one particular athlete, who will be embarking on the biggest fight of his career, Manny Pacquiao.
“A prayer is one of the very first things a team does to start the day. This time, we will be saying a prayer for Manny Pacquiao. Not just because he is an athlete to whom our young athletes look up to but because he is a Filipino and he needs all the support and prayers that he can get,” said Vivian Ginete, Department of Education Region 7’s chief of the Resource Mobilization, Special Programs and Projects.
