PLASTIC makers are probably feeling the impact of plastic ban imposed by LGUs. Their industry association recently released a statement urging the reconsideration of such ban. It is their right to air their sentiments. I disagree though with the way they presented their side. They thumbed down paper instead of just arguing their case based on merits.
Plastic industry spokesman Crispian Lao was quoted by newspapers as saying that using brown paper and newspapers as food wrap is “not safe given the chemicals they contain and the uncertainty about where the recycled waste paper comes from.” Mr. Lao also claimed that one ton of paper requires the cutting of 17 trees that would have helped absorb carbon dioxide in the air among other things.
