Tantingco: Blood and Karma

WHEN President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo left Malacañang in June last year, she probably thought that she had signed every executive order, presidential decree and republic act necessary to prevent the long arm of the law from reaching her.

Well, as it turned out last week, she forgot one small detail: the law of karma.

The irony of Arroyo’s reversal of fortune, and the symmetry of her twist of fate, where she is now suffering the exact same thing suffered by the president before her, and staying in the very same detention room, can be nothing but karma—that cosmic law which ensures that all acts of charity are rewarded and all evil deeds are punished, sooner or later, and in more or less the same fashion. (more)
