There should be no politics in culture and the arts, said Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama during the launching of the Devotee City along with Councilor Roberto Cabarrubias.

Both officials belong to different political groups but have worked together for years for the Devotee City, an area at the Compaña Maritima where 100 container vans are stacked together to make a two-story housing compound for those who live outside Cebu City.

Devotees only have to show their bus or boat tickets to be able to avail of the temporary housing for those visiting Cebu City for the Sinulog festivities. Read the rest of this entry

IF CEBU Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia really wants to dance during the Sinulog grand parade, she can do it at the Capitol grounds, not at the Cebu City Sports Center.

This was the suggestion of Byron Garcia to his sister.

Byron does not want his sister to dance during the Sinulog festival for security reasons. His sentiment is shared by another brother of the governor, third district congressman Pablo John, and their father, second district congressman Pablo. Read the rest of this entry

Deaf-mute carves styrofoam replica of Niño

THE image of the Sto. Nino that will be featured in the grand finale dance this Sunday is said to be one of the closest a replica can get to the original image of the Holy Child.

It is carved out of styrofoam and painted by 27-year-old Norman Prias.

Prias also sewed the robe for the image and worked on its intricate beadwork himself. Read the rest of this entry
