Comelec gun ban starts Sept. 28

THE 45-DAY ban on carrying firearms and employing security personnel in public will officially start tomorrow, September 28, the start of the election period for the barangay elections on October 28.

“Pursuant to Comelec Resolution No. 9715 which prescribed the calendar of activities and period of prohibited acts in connection with the October 28, 2013 Barangay Elections, gun ban will be imposed beginning September 28, 2013 until November 12, 2013,” according to the official website of the Commission on Elections (Comelec). Youth leader laments move

POSTPONING the youth elections is tantamount to abolishing the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK), said SK Cebu City Federation John Phillip Po II.

Postponement of SK polls ‘should be made long ago’

PHILIPPINE Councilor’s League (PCL) national president Alma Moreno–Salic said on Tuesday that the postponement of the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections should have been decided long before, and not several weeks before the intended election.

Moalboal coastal cleanup

A TOTAL of 1,609 kilograms or about 1.6 tons of garbage were picked Friday, September 20, from the Panagsama Beach in Moalboal, Cebu in what was considered the biggest coastal cleanup in town.

The cleanup, organized by Johan Blixt of Neptune Diving Adventure and as part of the activities lined up by Project Aware Foundation, gathered around 116 people, excluding divers from different resorts in Moalboal, a southern town in Cebu. Read the rest of this story
