I HAVE always been skeptical of sports leaders, especially those who talk a lot, unless of course they prove me otherwise. So when I first learned that there was a party-list for the Filipino athletes, I thought, well, this is something new.

But still, I was willing to give the PBA Partylist the benefit of the doubt. Perhaps, they’d really do something new, especially when Rep. Police, military map out measures for Oct. 28 polls

THE Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) yesterday held its first Joint Peace and Security Coordinating Meeting for the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections set on Oct. 28.

Comelec extends filing of COCs

THE Commission on Elections (Comelec) extended the filing period of the certificate of candidacy (COC) for the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections from three days to six days.

According to Comelec Resolution 9761, the filing is set on Oct. 11-17 instead of the earlier schedule, which was from Oct. 15 to 17. No filing of certificate of candidacies, however, is allowed on Oct. 13, a Sunday. Read the rest of this entry

Negros Occidental voters up by 3.82%

NEGROS OCCIDENTAL voters for the October 28 barangay elections are up by 3.82 percent compared to those who participated in the Last May 13 elections.

Based on the records of the Provincial Commission on Election (Comelec) office, Negros now has 1,635,676 voters after the respective Election Registration Board have conducted hearings after the registration of voters. Read the rest of this entry

Cagayan de Oro’s river procession on St. Augustine Feast

ARCHBISHOP Antonio Ledesma led the river procession bringing with him a smaller image of St. Augustine; while Cagayan de Oro Mayor Oscar Moreno met the prelate as his boat docked at Duaw Park where the river procession ended.

Duaw Park is the newly renovated area adjacent to the tennis court and the Cathedral church which is located below the Ysalina Bridge.

The procession started at the river’s mouth in Barangay Macabalan where 41 boats decorated with flowers and indigenous materials assembled. Everyone aboard the boats also recited the novena. [Continue reading]

UC launches attack

THE University of Cebu (UC) Webmasters were relentless on defense and consistent in offense. They made it to the winner’s column at the expense of the University of Southern Philippine Foundation (USPF) Panthers, following a masterful 80-67 victory in the 2013 Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) basketball tournament at the Cebu Coliseum last night.
